The club was established in 1977, joining the NSWRL Group 16 competition. From 1977 to the late nineties the club enjoyed a period of strength. However, a period of inactivity followed until the club was revived again in 2018 demonstrating the strong support and community spirit surrounding the Bears. In 2021 the club rejoined the Group 16 competition and within four seasons, the Snowy River Bears won the highly coveted 2024 Group 16 Premiership defeating Eden Tigers in a hard-fought Grand Final played in Narooma.
